The Improbable Journey
During the past eight years Gerry Metz has traveled the Lewis & Clark trail accumulating reference material, painting and sketching to produce a book detailing their epic journey from St. Louis to the Pacific and back. The artist has researched their journey and traveled at the same time of the year, sometimes to the day, that they were there 200 years earlier.
This book highlights the travels of Lewis and Clark with over 60 paintings and numerous sketches of their most important and exciting moments and colorfully illustrates the hardships they endured and the beauty they observed. Gerry's thoughts along the way are mixed in with actual quotes from the Lewis & Clark journals.

By riding into the wilderness, Gerry is able to see what the people in his paintings might have experienced. This allows him to capture the true Spirt of the West.
